“Christians ought to be the best citizens and the finest patriots. Certainly they have a prior allegiance to God Almighty. But this can only make them better Americans. They need not gloss over the nation’s defects or sweep its failures under the rug. They need not claim that their country is always right. When it is right, they will support it; and when it is wrong, they will love it and work to correct it. Even as the Apostle Paul could speak proudly of his Roman citizenship, so should every American Christian speak proudly of his. The day that patriotism ceases, that day we will have ceased to be a people.” ~ from a Christianity Today editorial, July 1969
Happy Independence Celebration Week!
As we celebrate the birthday of our beloved nation with fun, food and fireworks, may we also include prayers for our leaders, our military, and our future. God bless America, land that we love, please guide us through the night, with your Light from above.

“God gives us the grace to accomplish what He calls us to do. His commands are also His promise of victory. Sometimes you might feel that it is impossible to endure to the end. That may be right! But when we come to the end of what is possible for us, then we can see God do the impossible. Faith has not begun until we believe God for the impossible. We don’t need faith to do what is possible. So if you are facing impossible situations in your life, praise God, for now you can begin to exercise your faith.” ~ Floyd McClung, Jr.
Happy Have-Another-Day-to-Praise-God!
We are parking during our Ladies Bible Study of Daniel, to focus on trials and testing. Although there is enough material about that subject to last a lifetime (!!!), we will spend just a few weeks to gain a Biblical foundation on trials before we move into the prophecy section of Daniel. YOU are warmly invited to join me as we dig deep in The Word and follow veins of gold to the treasures of a lifetime.
Vacation Bible School is only a couple weeks away. June 25 through 29 will find our building transformed into the Amazing Wonders Aviation Hanger. All children age 4 through Sixth Grade are invited to come fly with us. The VBS missionary collection will be going to Matt and Gayle Boyd for the ministry to Senegal, Africa. If you still have Pig With A Purpose hogging up coins at home, this would be a great time to unload him.
Our pro blogster, Tracy Sweat, is also supporting Matt and Gayle by designating all of the funds received through his blog site, Resting In His Grace, to the Boyd’s ministry, All Senegal For Christ. Great news and a great idea!! Monies are generated by advertisers paying per site visit, so you can be a part of supporting Matt and Gayle by going to www.mtsweat.com and signing up to follow his postings. He is a very engaging writer and you will be refreshed as you stop by and rest with him whenever you receive an e-mail notice of a new post.
Looking forward…
Scrapbook Nights will be held on July 13 and August 17

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie,
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
~ Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae, 1915
This Memorial Day weekend we honor the sacrifice of those who died in service to our nation. The first observance in 1866 was to honor the fallen of the Civil War. The name was different, Decoration Day; but the ceremony was similar, with flags flown at half-staff, solemn parades, and flowers placed on graves. In 1915, Moina Michael replied to “Flanders Field” with her own poem:
We cherish, too, the Poppy red
That grows on fields where valor led,
It seems to signal to the skies
That blood of heroes never dies.
..and started the tradition of wearing red poppies on Memorial Day.
In our area, the official ceremony will be at the Jacksonville National Cemetery, 4083 Lannie Road, at 2:00 pm. Small flags will decorate the graveside of each veteran. Each small flag that waves is in remembrance of a large act of service. Sadly, the reason we have a holiday this month is often disregarded in favor of celebrating the beginning of picnic season. If we fail to remember the reason for the holiday, if we fail to honor the memory of those who died, we harden the heart of our nation, we dim the passing torch, and we loose the ability to teach our young citizens the value of counting the cost. Remember.
NOTE:
Scrapbook Night, Friday, May 25
There will be no evening service this Sunday, May 27.
As you bow our head in tribute to those who passed us the torch, please pray for our troops, our veterans, our wounded warriors, and our nation.

“ Now all these things are from God, who reconciled us to Himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation, namely, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and He has committed to us the word of reconciliation.” 2 Cor 5: 18-19
In 1914 the U.S. Congress passed a resolution that Woodrow Wilson signed into a national observance, establishing the second Sunday in May as Mother’s Day. The original purpose for the national day of recognition is missed by most of us. The motivation for the observance was deeply rooted in the lives of Julia Ward Howe, and Anna Reeves Jarvis, who lived through the Civil War. Their experiences with conflict and wounded communities drove them to organize women to unite families and neighbors that had been divided by the war. The driving force behind Mother’s Day was a ministry of reconciliation! Amazing! Overwhelmingly amazing! What changes could happen in our communities today if each mother returned to the original intent of the day and became a minister of reconciliation in her family and with her neighbors. It would be amazing. Overwhelmingly amazing!
You are invited to join us at Lighthouse Baptist for Mother’s Day Bible Study at 9:15 am and Service at 10:30 am this Sunday. There will NOT be an evening service.
We are hosting a Scrapbook Night on Friday, May 25 from 6:00 to 11:00 pm in The Box. It’s always a great time to work on organizing and preserving your memories! Creative Crafting Queens Melanie Johnson and Renee Williams will be available to help us with all our scrapbook issues and to encourage newcomers. You can sign up by e-mail reply or at church, but please let us know if you will be able to attend for planning purposes.
Happy Mother’s Day!

Today is May Day. When I was growing up, all those years ago in Ohio, we would have May Poles put up in the park. We would string ribbon and dance around the May Pole to make the decorative cords intertwine. It was a day to sneak up to the door of someone you love and leave a bouquet of flowers for them to find. The little girl me, would pick a bouquet of dandelions and violets for my mother. She would display my little love bouquet in her very best colored glass vase and I was encouraged.
Today is May Day. Someone loves you. He has planted a world of beautiful flowers at your door for you to find. Be encouraged.
Wilderness and desert will sing joyously,
the badlands will celebrate and flower—
Like the crocus in spring, bursting into blossom,
a symphony of song and color.
Mountain glories of Lebanon—a gift.
Awesome Carmel, stunning Sharon—gifts.
God’s resplendent glory, fully on display.
God awesome, God majestic.
Energize the limp hands,
strengthen the rubbery knees.
Tell fearful souls,
”Courage! Take heart!
God is here, right here,
on his way to put things right
And redress all wrongs.
~Isaiah 35: 1-4

How firm a foundation, ye saints of the Lord,
Is laid for your faith in His excellent Word!
What more can He say than to you He hath said,
You, who unto Jesus for refuge have fled?
When through fiery trials thy pathways shall lie,
My grace, all sufficient, shall be thy supply;
The flame shall not hurt thee; I only design
Thy dross to consume, and thy gold to refine.
The soul that on Jesus has leaned for repose,
I will not, I will not desert to its foes;
That soul, though all hell should endeavor to shake,
I’ll never, no never, no never forsake.
Dear Ladies Of Lighthouse,
GLORY! That is the best one syllable word I can use to describe our Sunday morning Bible Study as we plumb the depths of Daniel for golden nuggets of truth. The gold we are now finding is the one purified by refining fires. Have you ever had a trial or burden? Are you in a trouble or tribulation? Come and join as we study the example of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego in the fires of trials, persecution and testing. If they had bowed their hearts to anything other than the Lord, they would have avoided the fire…but they would not have seen God…and we would not have their example. What a wonderful reminder to me that if I bow to a temptation in order to avoid the trial, I will never know the richness of having God with me and I will miss an opportunity to showcase the reality and sufficiency of my Lord.
Another exciting opportunity for you is the new series that Brother Joey will begin this Wednesday, April 25, Living In The Word, at 6:30 pm. He will teach the “how” of studying the Bible, giving us practical tools to use.
Please take the time to sign up for e-mail notification of all blog updates, as this will soon be the primary source of communication for The Ladies Of Lighthouse.
Blessings,

“There is no one like the God of Israel. He rides across the heavens to help you, across the skies in majestic splendor. The eternal God is your refuge, and his everlasting arms are under you.” Deut 33: 26-27
Greetings Ladies of Lighthouse,
I am praying these versed for you today. That TODAY you will know that there is no one, no thing, like the Lord God who rides across the heavens in majestic splendor to help YOU. He is our dwelling place, our shelter, our retreat, our home. He IS rest. No matter how far down we are weighted with burdens, no matter how low our lows, He is underneath us with His everlasting arms. There is no one like the God of Israel. A-Ha!!!
Our students at Bryceville Elementary School will be testing this week and next. Please pray for the students AND the staff, teachers, and test proctors. This can be a stressful time and it is a special opportunity for us to shine bright for them by surrounding them in prayers. Consider using the “School Zone” signage on 301 as a prayer reminder as you drive through the community.
The Beacon Cafe’ is now open in The Box on Sunday mornings before Sunday School for coffee and breakfast treats. This is a ministry project that our youth have designed to benefit missions. All proceeds are designated for the Boyd Family and their mission to Senegal, Africa. Your patronage will be an encouragement to the youth and a blessing to the Boyd Family.
Please help spread the news that the Ladies Of Lighthouse will be using this website as a primary source of communication. You may have family and friends that have technology-phobia and need a little nudge and guidance in how to connect!
Blessings,
