This Sunday night (6/24), will be devoted to VBS. I call it “prep and pray.” Typically, the Sunday before VBS is a busy day for those who serve throughout the week. This year is no different. For many, Sunday will be their only day to decorate and set up. In addition, and even more importantly, VBS is arguably the greatest outreach event our church holds each year. Because of this, we are going to do things a little differently this Sunday night.
In lieu of our typical Sunday night service, we will gather for the purpose of praying very specifically for VBS. Ms Debbie Sheldon will present a list of needs so that our efforts can be even more focused. We will encourage teachers to pray in their rooms–even over chairs if so moved. We just want to saturate our facilities with prayer and cry out to God for souls. After we pray, the preparation will resume–and those who come can stay and help!
I really believe that this is necessary, and quite frankly, I am ashamed that we have never done this before. However, this is a tremendous opportunity for our church to “fuel” the work and ministry that will take place next week. Who knows, perhaps God will give a huge increase!
Growing up in church, I was repeatedly challenged to read and study my Bible. While this challenge is a very good thing, I cannot recall a time when I was offered a class on how to do it.
Two weeks ago, I began a new mid-week series entitled “Living in the Word.” It is a practical, hands-on series of lessons on how to seriously read and study God’s Word for yourself. My prayer is that many of our people will learn the basic “skills” of Bible Study so that they will go deeper into God’s Word. Ultimately, the goal of these lessons is life-transformation.
This series is designed for anyone, regardless of your current Bible knowledge. The principles we will be discussing are unchanging and foundational, allowing them to benefit everyone: from those who are just beginning their quest into God’s Word to those who are more seasoned in the exercise of Bible Study.
These lessons are offered each Wednesday night in the sanctuary at 6:30. Even if you have missed the past couple of weeks, it is never to late to join us!
For those of you who cannot make it on Wednesdays, these lessons are being recorded and may be obtained through our media ministry (a $2.00 donation is requested, but not required). See Walt Hygema for details.
I am excited about this new series and the potential it holds for those who attend. May God bless you as we learn to live in His Word!
For anyone who is looking at our new website for the first time, let me say WELCOME! We are extremely excited over all the potential this new ministry brings to our church family as well as to anyone who may stumble onto our site.
Our plans are to make our new website the “go-to” place for our church. Here, you will be able to look at our church events, special announcements, and read the blogs from our church leaders.
If you are a Lighthouse Member, I encourage you to bookmark this page. If you are a visitor, I hope that you will return again! Even better, why not visit one of our services!
Speaking of services, I hope that everyone reading this is making plans on being in church this Easter Sunday. You can find our service times on the home page.
I am also extremely excited about our new outreach ministry, TrueLife.org and I trust that our members will use these cards to reach other people for the Kingdom of heaven. If you haven’t already, I encourage you to visit TrueLife.org and familiarize yourself with its content. I truly believe that you will find it informative and extremely user-friendly.
Until my next entry, may God bless you and your family this week. I look forward to seeing you this Sunday as we celebrate Resurrection Day!
